Landscape Contractor Sales Position

We are looking for an energetic, motivated individual to fill a Contractor Sales position at Matsuda’s, an established wholesale plant nursery in southeast Sacramento.   

Our sales office caters to landscape contractors and designers throughout the area, selling high quality plant material and providing an integrated service and fulfilment approach to fully meet landscape contractor needs.  Our nursery consists of 160 acres of growing grounds specializing in woody ornamentals and perennials and maintains a strong reputation for quality plant material.  

Applicants should have at least 3 years of landscape sales experience, with the ability to complete multiple projects while communicating effectively with landscape professionals in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of trees/shrubs, annuals and perennials, demonstrate excellent customer service, be organized and have the ability to drive sales with contractors.  Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.  Delivery experience a plus.

Greenhouse and Propogation Manager - Fowler Nurseries, Inc., Newcastle

Directs and coordinates activities of the Greenhouse and Containers Department in propagating and producing plant materials for field and container use and producing container-grown trees for commercial growers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Reviews production orders or schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities, and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates in order to plan department operations.
  • Plans production operations, establishing priorities and sequences for propagation and production activities.
  • Reviews production and operating reports and resolves operational and production problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
  • Develops or revises standard operational and working practices and observes workers to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Resolves worker grievances or submits unsettled grievances to Human Resources Department for action.
  • Compiles, stores, and retrieves production data.
  • Produce hardwood and softwood rootstock cuttings from mother plant material.
  • Determine plant growing conditions, set up planting and care procedures and schedules.

Nursery Sales Position - Wegman's Nursery, Redwood City

Wegman’s Nursery, the Peninsula’s premier retail garden center, has a nursery sales position open. We are looking for a friendly and experienced full-time nursery sales person who is motivated and a self-starter. Horticulturist and Landscape Architect - UC Davis, Davis

Production Yard Manager - Belmont Nursery - Fresno

Objective: To grow and care for quality plant material and to supervise maintenance of a clean, neat facility in support of our annual sales goal.
Reports to:  Jon Reelhorn (President)

Support from: Production Grower, Plant Health Supervisor
Supervises:  Facility production staff
  1. Perform various aspects of nursery fieldwork, including pruning, watering, fertilizing, staking, weeding, consolidating and placement of plants in the field.
  2. Perform maintenance on all aspects of the yard, including irrigation repairs, planting machine maintenance, and overall maintenance of the production yard structures.
  3. Advise the Plant Health Supervisor of pest and disease issues in the production yard.  Spray herbicides/pesticides as needed.
  4. Supervise and implement the watering in the production yards coordinating with the other staff members. 
  5. Supervise fertilizer application in the production yard working in unison with the Production Grower.
  6. Supervise planting crew, proper technique and procedures on the planting machine and implement proper placement of plants in the nursery after planting.
  7. Document changes in availability of plant material (ready date changes, dumps, cutbacks) and forward them to the Inventory Control Specialist. 
  8. Coordinate and perform delivery transfers to and from other facilities. 
  9. Coordinate receiving of plant material from outside growers, assuring proper paperwork flow to the office.
  10. Tour the nursery each morning to pick up fallen plants and to spot problem areas.
  11. Keep nursery free of weeds, litter, and clutter.
  12. Support will call orders and customers when needed.
  13. Other duties as necessary.

  • Provide fast, friendly service by actively seeking out customers to assess their needs and provide assistance.
  • Ensure the Nursery Department is appropriately stocked and merchandised at all times. This includes ensuring all plants are receiving the appropriate care and maintenance to minimize product markdowns and returns. Works with suppliers on ordering the appropriate amount of inventory and product mix.
  • In-store expert on nursery product knowledge to be able to answer customer questions. Provides product features and benefits, and build an understanding of related products to be able to sell a solution to the customer.
  • Mentor to the Nursery department Sales Associates regarding product knowledge and selling techniques of nursery products.
  • Assist in other areas of the store as required. There are no boundaries when providing customer service.
  • Prepare for and assist with store inventory
Job Requirements:
  • AA degree a plus
  • 2-3 years of Nursery experience
  • Previous retail experience
  • Previous experience leading/managing others
  • Excellent communication skills; verbal, written, listening
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to supervisor and oversee a team
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively
  • Must complete Orchard's Certification Specialist Program within 30 days
  • Ability to work in stressful situation

Nursery Professional - Sloat Garden Center, Marin & San Francisco

Sloat Garden Center is hiring nursery professionals to fill openings at our stores in San Francisco and Marin. California Certified Nurserypersons have the advantage of experience and knowledge which dictates a higher starting wage than their peers. In addition, Sloat Garden Center pays a yearly bonus of $1200 dollars if the CCNP status is maintained. Further, we will pay your yearly registration. The CCNP status qualifies the candidate for buying positions within the store as well as more responsibility than a regular Nurseryperson. Sloat Garden Center generally promotes from within to management and assistant manager positions. Math sufficient to operate a cash register, handle money, and use a calculator is essential.
