Communication and Activity Communication The CANERS newsletter is mailed in January and July to all members. In addition, the membership receives a full list of the perpetual awards, notification of new awards and general news about the endowment in January. Activity The first CANERS event of the year traditionally coincides with the association's annual meeting held in the summer. In the past, events such as formal receptions and exciting silent auctions have been held with the proceeds are given to CANERS to augment research grants and scholarships. The second of the annual events is the CANERS raffle. Viva Las Vegas! is the traditional theme for the $10,000 raffle held each year on the second day of the Garden Market Expo in Las Vegas. There are additional prizes of $2,000, $1,000 and the second of two $500 Bonus prizes; the first prize is generally drawn at the annual meeting. You must be present to win these two $500 prizes. Only 400 tickets go into this drawing and the cost is $100 each. The ticket donations are used by CANERS to help fund scholarships and industry research grants. One person or multiple persons can purchase a ticket. There is a special promotion of buy two tickets and receive the third one free from the onset of ticket sales in spring up to the last day of the annual meeting.
