College Scholarships

Scholarships are awarded to qualifying 2- and 4-year college students.

  1. The California Association of Nurserymen Endowment for Research and Scholarship (CANERS) application must be used by college students who are currently enrolled in no fewer than 6 units within a program related to the nursery industry and who are entering or returning to college in a horticulture-related field in the fall.
  2. INCLUDE CURRENT TRANSCRIPTS and all college and university transcripts from the previous 5 years along with current transcripts and classes in progress. Copies are acceptable. Allow 4-6 weeks for transcripts.
  3. Applications must be typed or printed legibly. 12-point type preferred but no smaller than 10-point type. No unusual fonts.
  4. At least two current personal reference letters should be attached and sent in with this application. Reference letters from your most recent employer, ornamental horticulture instructor, FFA or ROP leaders, counselor, club/activity advisor, or church leader are very helpful in assisting the committee in their selection of recipients. IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT YOU INCLUDE ONE LETTER FROM YOUR ORNAMENTAL HORTICULTURE INSTRUCTOR.
  5. Completed application forms, current transcripts and letters of recommendation must be returned to the California Association of Nurseries and Garden Centers and postmarked no later than March 15 each year.
  6. Winners are announced prior to June 1 each year and scholarships awarded as deemed by the Scholarship Committee of the California Association of Nurseries and Garden Centers. No scholarships are issued until the institution verifies that the recipient is enrolled in and attending 6 or more units within a nursery industry programs.
